Session "The Delicate Balance: Prioritizing Technology Replacement Requests"
Every hospital is different, but every hospital
is the same. Each hospital has its own unique medical technology challenges, but every hospital has too many technology
requests for the available funds it has. As the pressure to spend huge sums on healthcare IT builds, the CT scanners
and cath labs must still be replaced and those physician preference items must still be purchased.
When every technology replacement request seems
valid on the surface, how do you truly distribute dollars effectively? Which factors should you consider most important?
Which new technologies must you make room for in the budget? What evidence should be gathered to support decisions?
In this session, we will review
prioritization strategies and best practices to help organizations make technology decisions that balance clinical priority
with fiscal priorities. We will look at real-world replacement decisions and how they affect clinical care and patient
safety.
Presented by
Anthony J. Montagnolo, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, ECRI Institute.
